Backing up a loaded trailer can be tricky if your brakes grab when you shift into reverse. The Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w/ Electric Lockout takes care of that automatically. The built-in solenoid ties into your reverse light circuit so the brakes stay disengaged when backing up. There’s no need to get out and flip a lever or use a manual lock pin. It’s a simple, automatic fix that makes reversing a boat, utility, or construction trailer much easier.
The EZ-Latch coupler makes connecting quick and foolproof. Just lower the coupler onto the 2" hitch ball and it locks itself in place with a solid click. You don’t have to hold the latch open or guess whether it’s seated correctly. The nylon composite latch handle is tough and corrosion-proof, so it won’t bend or snap like metal handles can. A locking pin can be added through the side hole if you want an extra layer of security when parked.
This actuator is rated for 7,000 lbs gross towing weight and is built specifically for hydraulic disc brakes. It delivers the higher fluid pressure that disc systems need—something drum actuators can’t do properly. A glass-reinforced nylon master cylinder with a large reservoir keeps more brake fluid on hand and helps prevent contamination thanks to the automotive-style diaphragm cap. It gives you smooth, consistent braking even on long hauls or steep grades.
Inside, the inner member glides on a wear-resistant, self-lubricating plastic liner that keeps movement smooth and quiet mile after mile. Large rear rollers help it telescope easily as the trailer moves with your vehicle’s braking and acceleration. The actuator body is made of heavy-duty steel with zinc plating that resists rust, backed by a 120-hour salt spray rating—ideal for boat trailers or any setup exposed to moisture and road salt.
Mounting is simple thanks to its standard bolt pattern designed for 3" wide trailer tongues. It uses 1/2" x 4-1/2" Grade-5 bolts (not included) for a solid fit you can trust. A built-in breakaway cable with snap hook comes ready to connect, giving you automatic trailer braking if it ever becomes disconnected in transit. Once bolted on, this Demco actuator is ready for years of dependable use with minimal upkeep.

This actuator was a replacement for a 20 year old Attwood product. The description that it was compatible with my existing was one of the key deciding factors for me. I bought the model with the backup brake solenoid based on the etrailer's recommendation. The Demco works so much better, it is much easier to mount the trailer to my truck and the brakes are now working. The Demco actuator is a good value and appreciated etrailer's detailed descriptions.

Everything is still working great, no issues with this product. Definitely will by again as meeded.
Great to deal with, no problems getting parts for warranty.
The Demco brake actuator pulls pretty smooth for a surge brake setup. One issue is the lip on the bottom of the unit. When installing a bolt, the head of the bolt hits it when tightening down. Can't use a washer on that bolt because of that.
We have used this in the past and it’s a great product . Easy to install and works great every time.
This trailer hitch brake actuator is excellent! My 2001 Jayco Eagle pop up has a stock hitch that was terrible. Upgrading to this will make hook up and detach way easier. Attaching this where the stock hitch went took some doing, had to grind off the tabs at the bottom of the frame to fit better, but the screw holes on the actuator align with the holes on the frame. The lift Jack also had to be moved back 8” to accommodate the rest of the actuator. Worth it for the peace of mind. Would buy again!

Easy to install crept it did not include hardware (bolts, nuts, washers). I had to make a trip to the hardware store to complete the project.
The bottom mounting hole is Too Close to the bottom flange. I could not get a socket on the bolt because the spacing at the bottom would not allow it. The only wrench capable of getting at the bolt head is a 3/4" open end wrench. I don't know about YOUR toolbox, but mine does not have a 3/4" open end wrench with torque readings. I could grind the flange a bit, but that would destroy the galvanized coating. I'll live with it as tight as I could get it, but this
is a design flaw.
No instructions but watched online videos and very happy with product

Fits snugly and I’d heavy weight quality. For people who read reviews but not the product description don’t forget to buy mounting hardware.
Holes for locking pin do not line up to lock 2 inch ball. Had to re-drill one hole to mount to trailer.
Easy install. Just a few bolts to replace prior disc brake actuator. Bleeding brakes was easy, wiring was easy, brakes and reverse lockout all worked fine.
Great product. Easy to install The automatic ball coupler makes it easy to connect to the trailer.
